The inspiration for the Domino came from the classic Gibson P-90: a single-coil pickup with a fat midrange, a bright, transparent upper-register and a notoriety for being one of the noisiest pickups around. The Domino was conceived in an attempt to deliver that great, single-coil tone in a noise-free package. What the Domino achieves, though, is far beyond anything we could have hoped for.
The Domino's dual-coil design provides a totally noiseless background against which it projects a distinctly single-coil-like tone. But freed from all the background noise, the Domino's tone is purer, even more transparent than that of a traditional single-coil pickup. In the neck position, the pickup's sound is full and reverberant, offering the music a glorious and unfettered air and, in the bridge, the Domino sings with an enormous, chime-like voice.
The Domino is sized to be a drop-in replacement for any traditional humbucker. Its cover is open-topped, so there is no brass or nickel-silver between the strings and the coils to suck away your tone. The pickup is carefully grounded and comes with a shielded lead to minimize the risks of any 120Hz hum and, just like the old P-90, the coils are wound with plain enamel-coated wire. The magnetic configuration of the pickup, however, will remain a proprietorial secret. It's a highly customized arrangement and contributes enormously to the unique tone the Domino produces.
The standard cosmetics for the Domino include a black, lacquered face, silver poles and a chrome cover. If you're interested in cosmetic variations, feel free to inquire.
